Torri Cantine
Torri Cantine was born in 1966 as a cooperative but since 2004 is privately owned seeking quality over quantity. The estate is situated halfway between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso mountains, around the little town of Torano in Northern Abruzzo. The best Montepulciano wines come from Northern Abruzzo, where the Apennines mountains become closer to the sea. On the hills around Teramo the vines are planted at higher altitudes and poorer soil compared to those planted in the more fertile and hotter Southern Abruzzo and they benefit of an ideal cooler microclimate.
The organically managed vineyards stretch for 60 acres in the towns of Colonnella, Controguerra and Torano, from 100 to 300 metres a.s.l. They produce a fresh range of autochthonous wines, Trebbiano, Cerasuolo and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo made in stainless-steel, together with a more terroir-expressive series achieved though the careful use of barrels. The Appellation “Colline Teramane” of their top Montepulcianos comes from a zone in the northern part of the Abruzzi which is renowned for the quality of its wine. The company is certified organic, confirming the path full of passion in selecting high quality grapes.
