Tenuta Giustini
In between the sea of Taranto, and the heights of the Itria Valley, is located San Giorgio, a small village which is part of the Primitivo di Manduria DOC region in Southern Puglia.
Giuseppe Papadopoli purchased his first own hectares in 1991, and launched his first wine of Negroamaro grapes in 2005, Vecchio Sogno, meaning ‘old dreams’, in tribute to his grandfather’s dream to have his own winery one day.
The vineyards of Primitivo, Negroamaro and Fiano are planted on “terre rosse” (red soil in English) in over 45 hectares in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria area, just a stone’s throw from the sea. The soil is rich in clay and limestone which combined gives the wine power and balance. The cool breeze of the Mediterranean Sea mitigates the hot temperature in the vineyards during the summer, allowing the grapes to mature with the right acidity and sugar level.
Giustini Wines is led by Giuseppe Papadopoli together with his sons Salvatore and Federico.
Giuseppe is the heart of the company and applies the experience of four generations to grow grapes of the highest quality in his vineyards; Salvatore is a young and passionate enologist with the desire to experiment and extract the best juice from his father’s work. Federico, on the other hand, is the cellar master: his eyes and arms guaranteeing all daily operations. They have worked hard with small resources but lots of ideas, and enthusiasm. In 2015, their hard work came to fruition when they finally opened their own winery and could bottle the wines with their own labels. Authenticity and sustainability are the values underlying their approach to viticulture and wine making. From the vineyard to the bottle, they take care of every step throughout the production process.
