Masseria Frattasi

Manufacturer Information

 Masseria Frattasi

Masseria Frattasi is located in Montesarchio within the area of Sannio Caudino. Their ancient vineyards can be found adorning the slopes of Magnum Taburnum (the current Mount Taburno), celebrated by the Latin poet Virgil in the Aeneid and Georgics. Originally founded back in 1779, Masseria Frattasi has been brought a new lease of life by Pasquale Clemente, the current owner. Pasquale is a journalist with a real passion for his land; wine for him is a demonstration of his passion for this wonderful and unknown area of inner Campania. The front label of some bottles includes a ceramic illustration by Giustiniani, one of the most famous ceramists of the 18th century, who lived very near to Masseria Frattasi.

The vineyards of Falanghina and Aglianico are very old - between fifty and more than one hundred years old. They are located on the slopes of the Mount Taburno on volcanic soil, at approximately 400m above sea level, while a few are even grown at a higher altitude (800 m a.s.l.). They are all managed by biodynamic methods and Masseria Frattasi is proud of having the best variety of the Falanghina and Aglianico in Campania to have survived the threat of Phylloxera in the 19th century. A combination of volcanic soils, very old vineyards and a cool climate in the South of Italy is the secret of Pasquale’s terrific wines.
