The Fattoria di Rietine is a small privately-owned estate with 12 hectares of vines in the south of the Chianti Classico region. The hamlet of Rietine is located on a soft slope of 400 to 450 m a.s.l. close to Gaiole in Chianti and is doubtlessly one of the best locations in the whole Chianti Classico area. Mario Gaffuri and Galina Lazarides bought this dilapidated mass-production winery in 1988 and came here to make wines in 1992. Mario makes the wines himself, under the supervision of the oenologist Andrea Mazzoni. The whole vineyard has been completely renewed and is now in full production. There is an approximate mix of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot as well as a few small plantings of other varieties.
